According to the General Senior High School English Curriculum Standards(2017 Edition),one of the objectives is to foster students’ creative thinking,which includes two aspects,i.e.,tendency and ability.English writing,as a crucial expressive skill,plays a vital role in cultivating students’ creative thinking.However,the cultivation of creative thinking in writing teaching is often overlooked by English teachers who place heightened emphasis on language proficiency level,impeding the development of students’ creative thinking.SCS Maker Teaching Method is a teaching method proposed by Fu Qian(2015: 6-12)to incorporate Maker Education principles into teaching practices.SCS Maker Teaching Method,which aims to stimulate students’ creative thinking with clear steps and good operability,presents a novel idea for English teachers in senior high school to effectively cultivate students’ creative thinking.This research is dedicated to exploring the impact of applying SCS Maker Teaching Method on students’ creative thinking,aiming to answer the following three questions:(1)What is the current state of students’ creative thinking in the English writing class in senior high school?(2)How can English teachers design a teaching framework guided by SCS Maker Teaching Method to cultivate students’ creative thinking?(3)What are the impacts of applying the teaching framework guided by SCS Maker Teaching Method on students’ creative thinking? The research subjects are the 100 students in Class 12 and Class 19 in Senior One of a high school in Ganzhou City.An English writing teaching practice has been conducted for three months by applying SCS Maker Teaching Method.An understanding of the current situation of creative thinking in both classes is gained prior to the application through teachers’ interview,pre-questionnaire and pre-test.Throughout the application process,the Experimental Class utilizes the writing teaching framework constructed under the guidance of SCS Maker Teaching Method,while the Controlled Class continues to employ the previous writing teaching method.The impact of SCS Maker Teaching Method on students’ creative thinking is assessed after the application by conducting post-questionnaire,post-test and students’ interview.The data have been collected and analyzed,yielding the following results.Firstly,it is found that English teachers in senior high school currently neglect the cultivation of students’ creative thinking in English writing teaching;as a consequence,students face challenges in fully giving play to their creative thinking in the process of writing.Secondly,English teachers can construct a writing teaching framework by adopting the seven steps of SCS Maker Teaching Method,i.e.,Story,Copy,State,Copy extended,Stimulate,Cooperate and Share in writing teaching,considering the feasibility of this method in senior high school English writing teaching.Thirdly,the Experimental Class exhibits superior creative thinking tendency and creative thinking ability compared to the Controlled Class;the application of SCS Maker Teaching Method significantly enhances the creative thinking level in the Experimental Class and this method is widely supported by students in the Experimental Class.Consequently,it can be concluded that the application of SCS Maker Teaching Method to English writing teaching in senior high school is effective in improving students’ creative thinking.
