A Comparative Study On The Semantic Prosody Of Vocabulary Collocation In Xi Jinping: The Governance Of China(Ⅰ) Based On Corpus

Foreign media reports have used various inappropriate translation strategies,causing misunderstanding of China among foreign people and damaging China’s good international image.In order to give the international community a more comprehensive and objective understanding of China,an English translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)is subsequently released.Chinese academics have studied the English translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)and have made some achievements,mainly in the areas of strategies using translation theory and national image building.In the thesis,Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)is taken as the object of study.Three meta-functions and semantic prosody are theoretical basis.The macro-corpus research method is employed to investigate whether its English translation achieves semantic prosody equivalence.Firstly,the Chinese and English corpora of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)are established.Secondly,antconc3.5.8 software is used to extract the verbs for ideational function,modals words for interpersonal function,conjunctions,pronouns and key words for textual function in both Chinese and English versions.Again,the vocabulary frequencies are counted and the corresponding data are automatically graphed.Finally,the extracted Chinese and English data were analyzed for semantic prosody comparison.Combining the characteristics of corpus English translation studies,the theoretical analysis reveals that:1.From the perspective of the transitivity processes of ideational function,the English translations of the verbs in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)have achieved the semantic prosody equivalence.2.From the perspective of the modality of interpersonal function,the English translations of the modal words in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)have achieved the semantic prosody equivalence.3.From the perspective of the cohesion and coherence of textual function,the English translation of the functional words in Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)have achieved the semantic prosody equivalence.The English translation of the keywords has achieved the semantic prosody equivalence at the textual level.Therefore,from the perspective of the meta-function of systemic functional linguistics,the translation of Xi Jinping: The Governance of China(I)has achieved semantic prosody equivalence between Chinese and English.The semantic prosody in corpus translation is analyzed from the perspective of systemic functional linguistics,which provides a new perspective for translation research.In translation practice,it helps researchers to establish the semantic awareness and improve the accuracy and quality of translation,so as to achieve better outreach effects and reshape China’s good international image.
