Parenting: A Dynamic Perspective is written by George W Holden,an American parenting expert.The book introduces multi-level and ecological concepts and methods of parenting.This book considers a variety of parenting factors such as socioeconomic stress,violence,abuse and mental illness,and conducts in-depth investigation and research,which helps to understand and solve a variety of parenting problems and challenges.The ideas in the book are scientifically accurate,persuasive and enlightening.In recent years,children’s mental health problem has been paid more attention in China.There is also a growing demand for books on child rearing and psychological studies.This translation practice is guided by Nida’s functional equivalence theory.It mainly focuses on the content,then the form.It is reader-oriented and seeks to achieve functional equivalence between the translation and the original text,so that the reader could get the same reading experience and effect as the reader could get from the original text.Due to the differences between Chinese and English,the translator should not stick to the form of the original text,but deal with the lexical and syntactic structure flexibly when translating so as to meet the reading requirements of the target language readers.In this translation practice,the translator started from both lexical and syntactic levels,used translation techniques such as division,conversion,amplification to adjust the lexical and syntactic differences between Chinese and English,and strove to meet the requirements in terms of fidelity,readability and rationality.By analyzing and summarizing this translation practice,the author intends to explore the translation methods of educational books and provide reference for the translation methods of the same type,and also hopes that readers could know more about the ideas of parenting and issues related to children’s psychology.
