The Influence Of Group Entitativity On Group Bias: The Moderate Role Of Fairness Norm

There have been many studies on group bias,and the group bias verified by many people is stable.The two directions of group bias widely exist in different groups and situations,which are the in-group favoritism that is more biased towards the in-group members than the outgroup members and the black sheep effect that is more severe towards the in-group members.However,there are few studies on what causes people to prefer members of the in-group,and what causes people to be more strict with members of the in-group,that is,what factors will affect the direction of group bias.According to the existing relevant studies,it can be seen that the factor of group entitativity is likely to have a direct impact on group bias,but there is less verification in this regard.Whether the impact of group entitativity on group bias will have different effects in different situations is different in different fairness norms,and there are few studies in this regard.This study combines social identity theory,subjective group dynamics model and normal focus theory to explore the impact of group entitativity and fairness norm on group bias.The study mainly focuses on two issues: first,the impact of group entitativity on group bias;Second,the impact of group entitativity on group bias under different fairness norms,that is,whether fairness norm plays a moderating role in the impact of group entitativity on group bias.The study was divided into two experiments.Experiment 1 used resource allocation task to study the group bias of different entitativity groups,single factor experimental design was adopted(group entity: high and low).The result shows that there was in-group favoritism,and the subjects allocated more resources to the members of the in-group.And group entitativity has a significant impact on group bias.Compared with the low entitativity group,more in-group favoritism is found in the high entitativity group.Experiment 2 uses ultimatum game to study the impact of group group entitativity and fairness norm on group bias,and adopts 2(fairness norm: fair and unfair)× 2(group entitativity: high and low)two-factor mixed experimental design.The result shows the interaction between fairness norms and group entity on group bias was significant.The simple effect shows that under the condition of fairness,the influence of group entitativity on group bias is not significant.Under unfair conditions,group entitativity has a significant impact on group bias.Compared with the low entitativity group,the subjects of the high entitativity group have less preference for the members of the in-group who also violate the norm of fairness,and have a more severe tendency.In conclusion,this study confirmed the impact of group entitativity on group bias,and found that this impact will be moderated by the fairness norm,that is,under different fairness conditions,group entitativity will have different effects on group bias.
