The source text of this translation task is selected from The Luya Mountain.The book is divided into ten chapters which introduce the scenic spots,the related history and the culture of the Luyashan Scenic Area.At present,there is no English version for the brochure.This translation practice selects the introduction of the scenic spots in the book as the translation material.The source text belongs to the tourist text,with many names of scenic spots,rhetorical devices and culture-specific items,which are difficult to render properly in this translation task.According to the Text Typology Theory,the tourist texts have both informative function and operative function,which means that the target text should not only contain the major information of the source text,but also attract the target readers.In the translation of the names of scenic spots,five translation methods are used to convey the meaning of the names,i.e.,transliteration,literal translation,free translation,transliteration plus literal translation and annotation.For the rhetorical devices,such as simile,personification and parallelism,the methods of literal translation and simplification are used to deliver the major information of the source text.In the introduction of the history of scenic spots,there are many culture-specific items.Three translation strategies proposed by Aixela are used in the practical translation,that is,linguistic(non-cultural)translation,extratextual gloss and intratextual gloss,to convey the cultural connotation of the source text.This translation report firstly introduces the background and significance of the translation task.Then,it elaborates on the task process,including pre-translation,whiletranslation and post-translation.Next,the report introduces the theoretical framework,including text typology theory and the studies on tourism translation.This report mainly analyzes the translation strategies for the names of scenic spots,rhetorical devices and culture-specific items based on case analysis.Finally,the findings and limitations of this translation practice are summarized.
