This translation report(hereafter, this report)chooses materials from the preface and first chapter of Culture,Crisis and COVID-19: The Great Reset, which issued by Cambridge Scholars Publishing in 2021 as the source material for Chinese translation. The main point of this book is to reveal the differences in measures taken by Eastern and Western countries in response to the pandemic under different value systems. The translator chooses the preface and the first chapter as the objects of this report which has a large number of single-word terms and light verb constructions. The sentence structure of the text is rigorous, the language expression is objective, and the logic is strong. The results of the comparison between the keyword lists demonstrate that this book is an informative text and its purpose is to disseminate information. When translating it,the emphasis is placed on the authenticity, accuracy, and readability of the content.Additionally, the translator needs to take into consideration the cultural background and reading habits of the intended audience.Based on the characteristics of the text type, the translator uses functional equivalence and the model of extended units of meaning from translation and linguistic theories to guide this report,in order to solve problems that may occur during the translation process. This report uses the concepts of Semantic Prosody and Discourse Prosody in Corpus Linguistic to achieve functional equivalence between source text and target text in the Chinese translation of Informative Text. The methods used include co-selection of lexis and grammar, meaning coherence and semantic harmony. In addition, this report summarizes effective strategies for translating Informative Text from the perspectives of translation and linguistics. The report results provide ideas for the translation of Informative Text, translation teaching, and translation applications.
