A Report On E-C Translation Of Thematic Collection Of The Cultural Interactions Along The Silk Roads:Textiles And Clothing Volume(Chapters 6-8)

The Silk Road,linking the Eastern and Western civilizations,has made outstanding contributions to advancing the process of human civilization for nearly two thousand years.As an important carrier of cultural exchanges along the Silk Road,textiles carry the essence of culture along the Silk Road.For the new era,reviewing the important roles played by textiles and clothing in cultural exchanges can give readers a new perspective on history.This report is based on Chapters 6 to 8 of Thematic Collection of the Cultural exchanges along the Silk Roads: Textiles and Clothing Volume.The book explains the development of textile materials,technologies,patterns,art,culture and other elements along the Silk Road and the exchanges of these elements along the route,describing the roles that textiles and fabrics have played in global history.In order to effectively convey the information and meet reading expectations of the readers,the author adopts semantic translation and communicative translation as the theoretical basis of this translation task.Guided by semantic translation,the author analyzes the translation of proper nouns,professional words and common words.In terms of proper nouns with established meanings,the author adopts literal translation and follows established translation.When translating proper nouns without established meanings,transliteration is adopted to convey the meaning.The source text is characterized by many textile terminologies.The author relies on the context and expertise in the textile field to convey specific meanings.For common words,the author uses techniques such as semantic extension to present the contextual meanings of words by combining the context and logical thinking ability.Based on communicative translation,the author discusses the translation of Chinese classics,minor language expressions,graphic annotations and correction of errors in the original text.In terms of Chinese classics,Domestication is mainly adopted to translate Chinese cultural factors.As for minor language expressions,the author makes use of information search competence and combines free translation to translate.For graphic annotations,the author adopts amplification technique to add the necessary background information to help readers understand.The author also corrects the errors that appear in the original text.This report aims to summarize the translation experience in the textile field to provide references for translation in the field of textiles and clothing.
