The middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River,located in the hinterland of the motherland,is one of the birthplaces of Chinese civilisation,with a large number of sites and rich cultural types that have always attracted the attention of archaeologists.A large number of Neolithic burials have been found in this area,and many artefacts of research significance have been unearthed.As the saying goes,"the dead are like the living",burials,as the dwelling place of human beings after death,can map the real information before birth through the burial objects,providing research direction and research materials for future generations.Among them,the jade stone battle-axe,as a special burial object,developed along with the beginning and end of the Neolithic period,becoming a product and reflection of the time,completing the transformation of the nature of production tools to ritual tools.In this paper,through collecting the jade battle-axes excavated from the Neolithic burials in the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River region,combing and summarising the history and current situation of the research on jade battle-axes,analysing the jade battle-axes excavated from the burials in the middle reaches of the Yellow River region and the lower reaches of the Yellow River region on the basis of the previous research,adopting a unified typological division standard,and studying the staging and breaking of generations on the basis of typology,dividing the jade battle-axes into three phases,and summarising the characteristics of the artefacts of each phase,the The jade battle-axes are divided into three phases on the basis of typology,and the characteristics of each phase,its age and regional distribution are summarised,and the origin and flow of the jade battle-axes are explored.From the artefact itself,it then examines the binding,the painting,the number of piercings and the symbolic meaning of the tools,sceptres,weapons and dance implements represented by the jade battle-axe.The change in function of the jade battle-axe from a tool of production to a ritual instrument is examined in the light of its location in different periods of excavation,the condition of the burial objects,its own characteristics and changes in social consciousness.By exploring the various aspects of the jade battle-axe,it is possible to see the big picture in a small way,to glimpse the social development and changes of the ancients,and to reflect on the evolution of Chinese kingship.The humanism and historical information contained in the battle-axe cannot be ignored,and further study of the battle-axe will yield even more unknown information about the ancestors.
