Because of its authenticity,documentaries have become an important window for international audiences to understand the world,other countries and others,as well as an important carrier of cultural exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations in the field of international communication.In recent years,with the enhancement of China’s comprehensive national strength and international influence,the demand for documentaries in both external and internal exchanges is also increasing year by year.In this context,on the one hand,Chinese documentary production institutions have strengthened cooperation with international organizations,and adopted such methods as "speaking by mouth" and "going to sea by boat" to tell Chinese stories to the world,which has achieved better international communication effect.On the other hand,documentary creators from all over the world have realized China’s demand for documentary creation and have taken the initiative to co-produce documentaries with China,which has played a unique role in helping the world understand the real,three-dimensional and comprehensive China.By synthesizing theories related to documentary creation,narratology and audiovisual language,and using research methods such as case study,film pulling method and comparative research method,this study studies the creation mode of Chinese-foreign co-production documentaries in recent years,aiming to explore the creation mode that can be used as reference for subsequent Chinese-foreign co-production documentaries,so as to better serve documentaries in telling Chinese stories and spreading Chinese voices.This paper mainly analyzes the program content,work form and creation mode of Chinese and foreign co-produced documentary works in three different modes: participation experience,theme-driven and explanatory.Through the analysis,it is found that the participation experience mode of Sino-foreign co-production documentary relies on the host’s participation experience,cooperation and confrontation to enhance the program’s interactivity and persuasion;The theme-driven Sino-foreign co-production documentary achieves the implicit expression of the grand theme by means of live connection and fact presentation.Chinese and foreign co-production documentaries that illustrate the ideographic mode transfer knowledge through the combination of emotional resolution theory,acting and image.Based on the analysis of the above three modes of Sino-foreign co-production documentaries,this paper summarizes the inspirations for the creation and development of Sino-foreign co-production documentaries,and explores the rules that can be used for reference by subsequent co-production documentary creators.
