Zhuang and Cantonese are the two main languages of Guangxi, spoken by a large population, and have been in contact with each other for a long time in the region, which is the basis for studying the geographical types of Zhuang and Cantonese vowels in Guangxi.Taking the phonological materials of 133 Zhuang and Cantonese language points that have been published as samples, this paper examines the commonality and implied relationship between Zhuang and Cantonese in vowel types from the perspective of phonetic types,so as to verify the common characteristics and various implicit relationships of human language phonological systems summarized by the World Atlas of Languages(WALS)and Maddieson and other scholars. In addition,we used Arc GIS 10.8 software to map the geographic distribution of Zhuang and Cantonese vowels to investigate the geographic distribution of Zhuang and Cantonese vowels. This paper is divided into five chapters. The introduction mainly introduces the research status of phonetic typology,Zhuang and Cantonese at home and abroad, the research value and significance of this topic, research methods, corpus sources, etc. The first chapter examines the vowel systems of Zhuang and Cantonese, including vowel inventory, frequency of vowels, how the vowel system is expanded, and the correlation of consonants and vowels in Zhuang and Cantonese. The systematic structure and geographical distribution of single vowel in Zhuang and Cantonese were systematically analyzed, and it was found that7-vowel system in Zhuang and Cantonese was the most common.Chapter 2discusses the order and implied relationship of the monophthongs between Zhuang and Cantonese on lingual configuration based on the classification criteria of vowels.Chapter 3 examines the features of Zhuang and Cantonese vowels beyond their basic vowel features, and finds that the vast majority of Zhuang and Cantonese have the contrast of vowel length, and Zhuang and Cantonese are in the period from no apical vowels to the budding of apical vowels, and the language points with apical vowels do not have obvious regional characteristics in geographical distribution.Chapter 4 examines the compound vowels of Zhuang and Cantonese, and discusses the location distribution relationship of triphthongs(V1V核V2),between vowels on lingual configuration and V1,V核,V2 in Zhuang and Cantonese.Chapter 5 is the concluding part, summarizing the main points of the paper.
