With the rapid development of Internet technology and the renewal of the concept of education informatization,short videos,as a kind of online teaching resource,have already received keen attention and practical application from the academic community.Specifically for international Chinese language teaching,how to select suitable materials for international Chinese language teaching among the huge amount of short video resources? How to apply the short videos reasonably to specific teaching sessions?How to make full use of the short cultural videos in the context of "telling Chinese stories,spreading Chinese voices and presenting a credible,lovely and respectable image of China" to enrich the teaching contents,improve the teaching effects and promote the cross-cultural adaptation and "understanding of contemporary China"ability of international students in China? "This is the core issue that this study tries to explore.This study takes the short video of Douyin as the center of examination and the teaching of culture to foreign students in China as the research object,based on the Reference Framework for Teaching Chinese Culture and National Condition for International Chinese Language Education published in 2022,and the cultural points involved in the textbook UNDERSTANDING CHINA of Cheng Aimin’s edition as the reference.Through an in-depth analysis of the characteristics of Douyin platform and its short videos applied to culture teaching,a questionnaire survey,semi-structured interview and case study are used to comprehensively sort out the current situation,problems and needs of Douyin culture short videos applied to culture teaching for international students from three aspects,including teachers’ regular teaching,representative teaching events and students’ learning needs,and try to put forward the corresponding application principles.Based on the instructor’s self-edited textbook Folk Culture and International Chinese Education and the textbook UNDERSTANDING CHINA by Aimin Chen,this study selected a provincial intangible cultural heritage item(the clay sculpture Taiping Mud Calling)as the teaching content,and conducted two cultural teaching practices and reflections on the teaching for international students of intermediate and advanced Chinese language level.It is expected to provide a case reference for the application of short videos represented by Douyin in the teaching of culture to international students.Through the study,this thesis finds that Douyin short videos as teaching resources have the characteristics of rich content,clear topics,identity,textbook matching and multi-dimensional training,which help stimulate students’ interest in learning and effectively improve the effectiveness of cultural teaching and the cross-cultural adaptation ability of international students in China.However,it is clear that there are practical problems with Douyin short videos,such as the varying quality of the videos and the large amount of work involved in screening teaching applications.Accordingly,on the basis of thorough research,this study proposes that the selection principles of suitability for the characteristics of teaching objects,positive cultural connotations,vivid and interesting content forms,linguistic and cultural norms and authenticity,and taking into account ancient and modern cultural characteristics should be followed;the application principles of appropriate and timely broadcasting,secondary processing and creation,and cultivation of communicative competence should be followed.This study proposes specific suggestions on how to use Douyin short videos before,during and after lessons.Tt also provides specific suggestions on the design and recording of Douyin short videos for cultural teaching in conjunction with specific attempts such as the comparison of Douyin short videos for cultural teaching and micro-teaching videos.
