In comparison to other periods, modern society’s organizational structures, forms of production, and ideologies have undergone significant change.Traditional festive activities, which are a result of human contact with festivals, are gradually losing their human participation and geographical location as the traditional festival system as a whole is in decline and dissolving.Modern family relationship and communication patterns have been impacted by modernization at the same time. The conditions for family members to be present together in time and space have been reduced, and to some extent, the opportunities for face-to-face communication among family members, due to the different social division of labor outside the family and the shared space and time within the family divided by electronic media of the Internet.Noting that families visiting ancient towns during traditional festivals are able to synchronize internal and external space and time, increasing the opportunities for emotional communication between members,it is important to note that the tourism boom in ancient towns has provided a new type of venue for traditional festivals. In order to better understand how traditional festivals connect families of visitors, how traditional festivals provide the necessary environmental conditions, what are the prerequisites for the synchronization of the family’s internal and external space and time, and most importantly, what aspects of family relationships are affected by the synchronization of family space and time achieved through participation in traditional festivals,it is important to examine the following.Based on this, this paper uses a combination of participant observation and in-depth interviews to firstly sort out the rationality of the historic town as a new type of host for traditional festive activities, pointing out that the ancient town meets the requirements of traditional festive activities in terms of spatial venue and personnel participation;then, using the ancient town of Da Yang as a case study,it analyses the importance of its physical and human environment for the presentation of traditional festive activities, and analyses the production of relationships between performers and visitors in the process of continuous interaction through Irving Goffman’s exhibition theory, clarifying the importance of traditional festive activities for the recreation of traditional festivals and the connection of family relationships. The paper then takes a temporal and spatial approach, combining empirical data to show that the synchronization of dislocated time and the reorganization of fragmented space are the necessary preparation and key prerequisites for the connection of family relationships, and to analyze the opportunities and platforms that traditional festive activities in historic towns provide for the joint presence and interaction of tourists’ families in time and space. In conclusion,it is made clear that maintaining the environment in which traditional festive activities take place, protecting it,and constantly enhancing the types of such activities, and the significance of the role of spatial reorganization and temporal synchronization of traditional celebratory activities serve as models for modern society and other families.
