| Observational documentaries emphasize “side-by-side” recording,and in recent years this filming method has been mostly used in various types of reality shows.However,it is the use of this method in documentary filming that can truly reflect the aesthetic characteristics of observational filming and show the unique charm of the observational filming method.Children as the group to be recorded are easily impacted by external factors during the filming process,whereas the “non-intrusive,non-interference” filming style stressed in the observational documentary avoids the influence of filming behavior on children to the maximum extent possible.This paper focuses on the narrative study of observational documentaries with children as their subjects.On the one hand,it collates and summarizes the definition of children’s documentaries with relevant materials,and explores the narrative characteristics and value functions of it by sorting out the film and television works on the subject.On the other hand,through the analysis of the observational documentary filming method,the author studies its unique aesthetic concept.By combining the observational filming method and the children’s subject documentary,the narrative characteristics and structure are analyzed in detail through case studies.At the same time,the theoretical findings are applied to the actual filming process to explore how to eliminate the influence of the camera on the subjects,how to explore the inner world of the subjects more with less "entrance",and how to present the daily trivial records to the audience in a complete narrative.By presenting the audience with a more comprehensive and fuller image of children through observational documentation,the film allows the audience to think about issues related to left-behind children and family education in the process.In writing the dissertation,this paper first systematically composes the research contents of domestic and foreign scholars,and analyzes the aesthetic characteristics of observational documentaries in combination with children’s subject documentaries.In the first part of the paper,the value function of children’s documentaries and the aesthetic concept of observational documentaries are explained.The second part takes the narrative characteristics of observational documentaries as the entry point,studies the methods of tracking and waiting for filming in observational documentaries,and analyzes the requirements for restoring the real state of children and the characteristics of simultaneous sound for the presentation of objective facts in children’s documentaries by way of examples.The third part presents an analysis of the narrative structure of the documentary in terms of the construction of characters and the narrative of the development of events,and the expression of the narrative combining time and space is analyzed by means of cases.Finally,the analysis and study of observational documentaries and children’s subjects identifies the shackles of development of observational documentaries about children in the present and possible solutions. |
