Supplementary discourse markers such as "and, besides, let alone,in addition" are frequently used and have rich pragmatic functions. They are one of the main means of discourse cohesion and are of great significance to discourse coherence.Due to its relatively empty semantics, and the complex situation and use of the members of the class,it is difficult for second language learners to learn, and it is the focus and one of the difficulties in teaching.Supplementary discourse markers are related to two levels of function words and complex sentences, and have research value both from the perspective of language ontology and language teaching.Although some relevant research results have been obtained,it still cannot meet the teaching needs in practical application. In order to better apply research results and serve teaching, this study, from the perspective of second language learners, observes the mistakes that learners tend to make when they use supplementary discourse markers, finds out the difficulties, and prescribes the right medicine accordingly.Through descriptive, inductive, and comparative analysis methods, the distribution, semantic background, semantic relationship, and pragmatic functions of supplementary discourse markers are studied, and relevant teaching ideas and strategies are explored. The distribution of supplementary discourse markers is relatively flexible, and can be located at the beginning,mid-sentence,and beginning of a paragraph, and can connect clauses, sentences, and paragraphs. The research found that "in addition,in addition, and" is usually supplemented based on reference points;"moreover, besides, and" with similar semantic backgrounds are often used as supplementary reasons."Moreover" is usually used to supplement secondary reasons;"what’s more" is usually used to introduce non-secondary reasons, and has the special format of "not to mention";"Furthermore" emphasizes that after the main reason is stated, further supplement other relevant reasons The reason or information;"and" is usually used to enumerate a series of related reasons or facts to further strengthen the main point or reason. From the perspective of semantic relationship, there are three supplementary types of supplementary discourse markers: "progressive type, parallel type, and additional type".In terms of discourse functions, supplementary discourse markers can connect topics, change topics, and continue topics,so as to make the content of discourse coherent;in terms of interpersonal functions, they are mainly statement supplements, explanations, demonstrations and persuasion, and highlighting and emphasizing. In terms of acquisition, learners have mistakes such as wrong addition, wrong substitution, and omission, which involve many aspects such as syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, among which the wrong substitution is the main one.
