Study On Zhou Yongnian’s Collection Of Books

Zhou Yongnian was a famous book collector in the Qianlong period of Qing Dynasty.He had a rich collection of nearly one hundred thousand volumes and was a leader among the book collectors in Shandong Province.Zhou Yongnian paid special attention to the friendship with his friends in the long-term activities of collecting books.Through the interaction with Shen Qiyuan,Li Wenzao,GUI Fu,Shao Jinhan and Zhang Xuecheng and other well-known scholars,Zhou Yongnian publicized his ideas of collecting books and put them into practice to establish a book garden,so as to further promote the preservation and dissemination of academic culture.After a long period of collection and arrangement of books,Zhou Yongnian formed an advanced and open idea of collecting books,which mainly included the idea of preserving books and the idea of using books for collection and use,which were mainly reflected in the Theory of Ruzang.In addition,the Theory of Ruzang established the idea of public library for the first time in Chinese history,and the book garden established under the guidance of the Theory of Ruzang was the earliest practice of public library in China.Zhou Yongnian’s activities and thoughts of collecting books have made indelible contributions to the transformation of ancient Chinese ideas of collecting books,the formation of modern libraries,and the preservation and dissemination of excellent traditional culture.The thesis mainly discusses from the following aspects:The first part discusses Zhou Yongnian’s life,friends and writings.Zhou Yongnian was a famous book collector in Shandong province.Because of his rigorous writing attitude,he had no related book writing activities.However,his Ruzang Theory had a very important influence on the history of Chinese book collection.Zhou Yongnian had a wide circle of friends throughout his life.Shen Qiyuan,a teacher in the Academy,gave him timely guidance on his way of studying and learning.Fellow townsmen Li Wenzao and GUI Fu fully supported Zhou Yongnian’s "Ru Zang" cause both materially and spiritually.He also interacted with Shao Jinhan and Zhang Xuecheng,who he made friends with after he came to Beijing,and these extensive social activities played a very important role in the development of his book collection activities and the formation and promotion of his book collection thoughts.The second part discusses Zhou Yongnian’s activities of collecting books.By summarizing the sources of collecting books,we can see the difficulty of collecting books.By discussing the collection and distribution of Zhou Yongnian’s books,we can see the important historical function of the book garden.According to Zhou Yongnian’s book collection activities,the author sums up the characteristics of his book collection,and highly affirming Zhou Yongnian’s role in the preservation and dissemination of local literature.The third part discusses Zhou Yongnian’s thoughts on collecting books.By summarizing Zhou Yongnian’s activities of collecting books and explaining the related ideas in the Theory of Ruzang,the author sums up his thoughts on the preservation of books and the utilization of books for collection and use.At the same time,the author further analyzes that the establishment of book garden is Zhou Yongnian’s concrete practice of open borrowing thoughts.The fourth part discusses the value of Zhou Yongnian’s thoughts on collecting books and the influence of his activities on collecting books,focusing on the transformation of the ancient ideas of collecting books,the preservation and dissemination of excellent traditional culture,and the influence on modern libraries.
