"Food is the top priority for the people" is an eternal topic,and food is closely related to people’s lives.In China,which advocates "food culture ",eating not only focuses on the food itself,but also reflects the cultural value behind it.Once "A Bite of China" was broadcasted in 2012,it quickly sparked a "tongue fever" and brought the art form of food documentaries into the public’s view.Subsequently,the production system of food documentaries became more mature.Food documentaries can not only showcase the geographical history,folk customs,and dietary habits of different regions,but also,through their media functions,narrate the cultural differences of different regions and construct different group identities in different regions.This article takes symbolic interaction theory and social identity theory as theoretical support,takes food documentaries as the research object,uses literature analysis,text analysis,and case analysis methods as research methods,and uses the graduation work "Memory of Food Light" as a case study,combined with excellent food documentaries in the market,to jointly explore group identity in food documentaries.The paper first sorts out the concept definition and creative trends of food documentaries,and provides a detailed interpretation of how food documentaries construct group identity through symbolic interaction theory and social identity theory,in order to create a good research field for group identity issues.Secondly,the paper discusses how food documentaries construct group identity from four aspects:collective memory construction,group identity oriented setting,audio-visual symbol oriented setting,and the value construction of food symbol identity.In terms of collective memory construction in food documentaries,the paper constructs emotional connections between groups and regions through a memory path from the presentation of individual food memories to the construction of collective food memories,and then to the construction of regional cultural memories;Collective memory is a crucial part of achieving group identity,and through shared food memories,people’s emotional identity can be achieved.In terms of the setting of group identity orientation of food documentaries,it has realized the transformation from individual memory to individual identity,from collective memory to group cultural identity,and from identity,cultural identity to national identity;To achieve group identity,a ethnic group needs to complete the construction of "self","identity",and "regional belonging".People first need to identify with "self identity" and "regional belonging",supplemented by "other" identification,in order to better achieve group identity.In terms of the practice of guiding group identification through audio-visual symbols in food documentaries,food documentaries guide the practice of group identification through the unique charm of audio-visual language;The film highlights regional style and strengthens regional color through aerial shots,aerial shots,and music sound symbols,building a unique emotional identity of the group towards the place.The film focuses on food details through close-up shots,viewpoints,colors,and commentary,enhancing the group’s recognition of the unique cuisine of the region.In terms of the identification value construction of food symbols,it has realized the regional cultural identity,folk cultural identity and food culture identity based on national self-confidence.Food documentaries have important value and significance for people’s group identity.They can reconstruct food memories,spread regional culture,construct people’s identity,achieve group and ethnic identity,and accelerate the internationalization of Chinese culture.Therefore,the creation of food documentaries should use food symbols as a medium to achieve identity and communication between regional groups,complete the mission of regional cultural dissemination,achieve group identity,and showcase national confidence.
