Among Chinese national operas,the opera Mourning the Past has always played an indelible role.It was written by musician Shi Guangnan to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Lu Xun’s birth.The whole work perfectly combines musical drama with the original literature,which is extremely appealing.Creating China’s first lyrical psychological opera through dramatic arrangements and personalized music themes for characters.This article adopts various information collection methods such as comparative research and literature analysis.In order to better showcase the stage art characteristics of national opera in terms of sound,stage,form,and form,and according to the assessment standards of our master’s degree program,the author has adapted the opera version of "Sadness for the Past" based on the artistic characteristics of stage practice,which is in line with theatrical logic and textual adaptation,In order to make the opera ’Sadness for the Past’ more suitable for practice and transformation on current university campuses.This article is divided into four chapters to elaborate on the author’s research context and achievements in the stage practice of the opera "Sadness for the Past".The first chapter revolves around the desk work before the rehearsal of the opera "Sad for the Past".This chapter consists of two parts.The first part is a review of the original work "Sad for the Past".The author introduces the creative background and ideological value of "Sad for the Past",and delves into the unique artistic charm of "Sad for the Past".The second part introduces two different art forms of "Sad for the Past",and summarizes and draws inspiration from the artistic forms of the opera version and the movie version,laying the foundation for subsequent adaptations.The second chapter provides a detailed introduction to the author’s rational adaptation of the opera "Sadness for the Past",which incorporates elements of drama and small theater,injecting new life into the traditional opera "Sadness for the Past".Chapter 3 analyzes "Zijun" in two parts based on his own performance style,starting from his "dramatic image" and "musical image".The first part follows the dramatic structure of "Spring,Summer,Autumn,and Winter" to elaborate on the role changes of the protagonists at different stages,with their emotions transitioning from passionate pursuit of love to crushing and oppressive departure from the world.The second part uses two specific arias of different styles to interpret the musical and dramatic functions of Zijun’s aria.In Chapter 4,the author summarized some insights gained from this stage practice,as well as the problems and solutions that existed during the rehearsal.Firstly,having a solid professional foundation to serve opera works.Secondly,character shaping requires combining text,understanding history,grasping character emotions,and enriching one’s own literary cultivation.Thirdly,enhance musical thinking and add color to the performance stage.Finally,a detailed analysis and resolution of the current situation in the rehearsal of the opera were conducted,making sufficient preparations for the graduation performance.
