Research On The Art Of Writing Graduation Speeches For University Presidents

The graduation speech delivered by the university president is a crucial component of the university spirit,possessing significant educational and practical value.Based on the basic theory of writing,as well as relevant theories in the fields of communication and education,this paper takes 90 college president graduation speeches as research samples,and adopts literature research method,inductive analysis method and case study method to clarify the concept,development process,characteristics and functions of college president graduation speeches.From the perspective of writing,this paper conducts in-depth research on the textual content of graduation speeches,explores the artistry of extracting viewpoints,selecting materials,using materials,and expressing,and provides some inspiration for writing college president graduation speeches,in order to maximize their practical and aesthetic value.This paper consists of four parts,excluding the introduction and conclusion.Firstly,based on the development history of university presidents’ graduation speeches and according to the era background and text content direction,this paper summarizes the three major characteristics and two major functions of current university presidents’ graduation speeches,which serves as the logical starting point to study their writing art.Secondly,the paper selects novel and profound ideological viewpoints for analysis and extracts three artistic techniques for refining ideas,namely,“finding the extraordinary in the ordinary”,“taking the big with the small”,and“building a grand theory from a small observation”.Thirdly,this paper explores the art of material selection by analyzing the materials and methods used in the graduation speeches of university presidents.Material selection should revolve around historical and cultural themes,contemporary hot topics,capturing student life and shared memories.This paper emphasizes that material selection should consider the dialectical relationship between points and aspects,reality and fiction,whole and part,old and new.The conclusion that the four artistic techniques of using materials: identifying connections,using reality to express the abstract,carefully editing,and repurposing old materials.Finally,this paper analyzes the expression art of university president graduation speeches in depth from micro,meso,and macro perspectives,and also explores the expression techniques,methods,and styles presented in the text.This paper presents innovative perspectives and conclusions that not only have theoretical significance,but also practical implications.
