Canadian painter Alex Colville painted in a unique style with a strong personal character. The cold and rigorous pictorial atmosphere expressed in his works and the metaphorical core behind his works have attracted a lot of related study and research.Throughout Colville’s painting career, his work has a more pronounced stylistic tendency and a clear artistic pursuit. The construction of scenes in these paintings also has distinct personal characteristics and pictorial significance. Therefore, the direction of research in this paper will start from the perspective of scene construction in his paintings, and in the first chapter,First,in the introduction part, the current status of research on Colville at home and abroad and related background materials are introduced, then we will study the picture effect of the scenes in the paintings, and preliminarily analyze Colville’s understanding and expression characteristics of the concept of scenes. Then,in the second chapter,we will delve into the research on the construction techniques of scene elements and explore the internal logic and theoretical basis in them.Among them, the study of the construction of Colville’s painting scenes from the perspective of perspective and narrative is the innovation of the thesis. The third chapter explores the role and significance of scene construction on the author’s emotional expression and depth of thought on the basis of the previous article, and forms a basic theoretical system about scene construction in Colville’s paintings. In the first three chapters of the specific discussion of Colville’s works, this article will appropriately select works of art from different historical periods for comparative research and explore the trajectory of Colville’s artistic concept. Finally, the fourth chapter combines the author’s creative experience to explore the new appearance and possibility of scene content in contemporary figurative realistic painting.
