At the end of the 19 th century,Edouard Viard was regarded as a prominent leader of the Nabi school, and his work was acclaimed in Paris. He drew inspiration from Impressionist art and incorporated it into his work. The way of observing life is neither simple nor flashy, forming a unique artistic language of painting.Viard was early inspired by symbolism,Ukiyo-e and other Japanese art forms. He abandoned the conventional way of spatial composition and showed more personal emotions and imagination.Influenced by symbolism, his works pay more attention to imagination and fiction, thus forming a decorative style, but with the passage of time, his works also began to tend to the real.Viard’s indoor work is wonderful, but the outdoor work is also worth examining. In the appreciation and analysis of Viard’s early, middle and late works, the author finds that the theme of outdoor scenery runs through the whole Viard’s painting career, and the scenery in each period is also representative with the evolution of his painting language.Viard perfectly combined the essence of Impressionism with the current fashion, which not only retained the essence of the traditional, but also possessed novel creative techniques. With concise and appealing painting language,Viard accurately demonstrated the diversity and complexity of the society at that time, which was amazing.Viard has always passionately explored life and presented it in unique ways. His art style is unique and full of personal characteristics. His painting technique is refreshing and can bring unique aesthetic enjoyment.Viard’s work is both decorative and coordinated, giving a new visual experience.
