Cezanne often copied the works of his predecessors for his own creation.The number of his studies is huge,and we can see his interest in those classic works.There are almost 400 copies of these works,and there is no specific time.Especially in the1990 s,when he became famous.This paper analyzes a large number of Cezanne’s copying works,and discusses the reasons,methods and significance of his copying.First of all,this paper lists the number and types of Cezanne’s replicas known so far,and tells the background and motivation of Cezanne’s initial imitation.Secondly,through the comparison and detailed analysis between Cezanne’s replicas and the original works of Delacroix,Poussin and Pissarro,the influence of Delacroix’s paintings on the composition and color of Cezanne’s pictures,Cezanne’s understanding of the "solid structure" of Poussin’s classical pictures,Pissarro’s teaching Cezanne to analyze and describe nature,It reveals Cezanne’s method of copying and his attitude of copying,namely:understanding the master rather than imitating the master;Finally,it summarizes the influence of Cezanne’s copying on his artistic creation.
