A Report On C-E Translation Of Litchi In Chang’an(Chapters 1-2)

In recent years,Chinese historical novels,with their unique artistic charm,are deeply loved by overseas readers and gradually become a window for western readers to understand Chinese history and culture.This is a practical report on Chinese-English translation.The source text is selected from the long historical novel Litchi in Chang’an by Ma Boyong,a famous modern Chinese writer.This book mainly introduces the difficult task of transporting fresh litchi more than a thousand miles away from the background of the Tang Dynasty,and reflects the macro society of the Tang Dynasty with micro personnel.The author has written this translation practice report from the following aspects:On the basis of introducing the background of the translation project,the source text and the structure of the thesis,this practice report focuses on the translation difficulties encountered in the translation process and the corresponding translation methods and strategies.The difficulties are mainly reflected in the culture-loaded words in Litchi in Chang’an.In the process of translation,the culture-loaded words involved in the text are analyzed and divided into four categories: language culture-loaded words,social culture-loaded words,ecological culture-loaded words and material culture-loaded words.As the ancient Chinese poems in the text belongs to the essence of the novel and has difficulty in translation,this practice report adds the difficulties and methods of translation of ancient Chinese poems.In the process of translating culture-loaded words,the author adopts literal translation plus free translation,literal translation annotation,transliteration annotation and other translation methods,which not only ensures the fluency of the translation,but also takes care of the reading habits of foreign readers,and helps readers better understand the translation and the history and culture behind it;In the process of translating ancient Chinese poetry,the author adopts literal translation and interpretation translation methods,which will help readers better appreciate and understand the culture of ancient Chinese poetry.Finally,the author makes a summary of the translation practice report,points out the shortcomings and puts forward suggestions for the translation of culture-loaded words.Through the English translation of litchi in Chang’an,this translation practice report has produced the English translation of some culture-loaded words and their translation methods,hoping to provide reference for the translation of Chinese historical novels,so as to better spread Chinese culture.
