As an important school of Western painting in the nineteenth century,Impressionism is still attracting people’s attention,study and affirmation even today,more than a hundred years later.In the wonderful history of art,Impressionism undoubtedly plays a role in connecting the top and the bottom.Impressionism broke through the constraints of traditional Western painting in the selection of subjects,and could be painted everywhere in the eye,Impressionist painting focused on real life experience,showing the connection between people and the world.Water is a material element closely related to our lives,water has given birth to countless lives,and impressionists who pay attention to realistic themes are naturally related to water in their creation,and the transparent nature of water and the changeable form of flow can undoubtedly present the impressionists’ pursuit of light and color changes.The first chapter of the paper expounds the changes in the French environment in the early period of the birth of Impressionism,the development and application of science and technology,and the changes in artistic thought,discusses what kind of soil these changes provide for the development of Impressionism,and reveals the background of the era in which the Impressionists lived.The second chapter of the dissertation examines the specific representations of water by the Impressionists in different forms,including when water is flowing or choppy,and when it is sparkling under the scorching sun.The third chapter of the thesis discusses the different ways of expressing water by the Impressionists,who have different ways of expressing water,including the concrete form of water in the form of objective realism,the elements of water in the form of subjective abstraction,and the expressive way of focusing on the expression of personal emotions.Chapter 4 explores the role of technique,color,and composition in shaping water in the Impressionists’ work.The fifth chapter of the thesis examines the artistic conception and emotional expression of water to the works of the Impressionists.Since ancient times,water has been endowed with different image symbols and artistic conception emotions by many literary works,and when Impressionists painters painted and created,water would be an important element for them to create artistic conception and shape the mood of the picture.
