A Study Of AI Characters In Science Fiction Shows About Artificial Intelligence From The Perspective Of Robotics Ethics (2016-)

The explosive development of AI technology has realized many imaginations in science fiction,but at the same time,it has also brought about widespread ethical concerns.This study selects three classic science fiction TV dramas with AI as the main theme,namely "Westworld," "Humans," and "The Expanse," and analyzes the commonalities of characterizations of AI robots in science fiction dramas after 2016 from the theoretical perspective of robot ethics.Specifically,the study attempts to identify which ethical principles and concerns of robot ethics are reflected in their characterizations.The study aims to provide references for the future development of AI robot characterizations in science fiction dramas.Robot ethics includes three core propositions:how to design and use AI robots,how to embed moral and ethical systems into AI robots to make them moral agents,and how to handle human-robot relationships.The three science fiction dramas all start from the core ethical expression of peaceful coexistence and mutual benefit between humans and AI robots,and the AI characters they portray have consistent characteristics.First,in terms of character shaping,AI robots all exhibit humanoid but alienated physical bodies and minds,and their social identity and gender functions are strongly linked.This ethical design allows AI robots to serve or resist humans more reasonably.Second,in terms of character arcs,AI robots in the dramas all exhibit the arc of "awakening from nothingness to consciousness," gradually gaining the traits of agency and autonomy,and achieving transformation through mixed top-down and bottom-up approaches.Third,in terms of human-robot relationships,the three science fiction dramas explore the two major issues of rights and emotions,but they all convey the concept of symbiosis:conscious AI robots should have limited rights and independently bear responsibility,and the emotional relationship between humans and robots should be established on the basis of human emotional health.Finally,this study imagines the future of human-like AI robots through the three science fiction dramas:the binary structure is dissolved,the boundary between inorganic and organic disappears,and humans evolve into post-humans.
