English as one of the dominant international languages,is spoken and used widely in the world.The Secondary English Curriculum aims to promote the development of students’ core English literacy and cultivate students as socialist builders and successors that have Chinese feelings,international vision and cross-cultural communication skills.However,due to many factors,most middle school students in the rural area have English proficiency in written English,but their spoken English ability and communication skills,are relatively lacking.This paper,takes Times Sunshine Middle School in Qingshanqiao Town,Xiangtan County as an example and analyzes the current situation and reasons of spoken English learning for junior high school students,puts forward spoken teaching strategies based on the concept of positive psychology,discusses the emotional and personality traits,peer relationship,teacher-student relationship,learning atmosphere,and family environment of teachers and students in spoken classroom teaching,and explores the influence of positive psychology on the improvement of spoken language ability.It also explores the relationship between positive psychology and the different results in the speaking tests from the perspective of gender.The methodology used in this paper is experimentation and data analysis by employing the Excel and SPSS27.0 software.Through questionnaire surveys and interviews with students,it can be seen that students in the Experimental Class are more satisfied with English teachers and speaking classes.After a semester of experimentation,speaking English test scores of Experimental Class was higher than the Control Class,and the results showed that applying positive psychology in spoken English teaching can effectively improve students’ speaking ability.It can be seen that it is feasible to introduce positive psychology into spoken English teaching,and positive emotions,positive individual traits and positive surrounding can effectively enhance students’ subjective well-being and promote the improvement of their spoken English ability.Through the experimental results,it can be seen that there is a significant difference in English performance between boys and girls,and girls are more interested in spoken English learning than boys.Girls are more active in speaking practice and pay more attention to accuracy in pronunciation than boys.
