Metaphorical argumentation refers to the argumentation that utilizes the crossdomain mapping of metaphors to participate in the reasoning process.Because metaphor plays a fundamental and important role in cognition, people often use different metaphorical concepts or metaphorical expressions to support their own position,so as to achieve the purpose of persuasion and negotiation. The essence of understanding metaphorical argumentation is to implement mapping reasoning between conceptual domains. The current research on metaphorical argumentation focuses on the informal argumentation approach, which generally presupposes the innate nature of cross-domain mapping, lacks the characterization of the mapping reasoning process,as well as a comprehensive analysis of the defeasibility of metaphorical argumentation. The study of formal argumentation is based on formal logic and aims to achieve non-monotonic reasoning in inconsistent situations, and is applicable for formalizing many aspects of informal argumentation research. Therefore, this thesis attempts to use the tools of formal argumentation to conduct a structural analysis of metaphorical argument,so as to construct a more explanatory model of metaphorical argumentation. The main body of the thesis consists of three parts:The first part draws on the research of metaphorical argumentation from the perspective of informal argumentation, and clarifies the basic concepts of metaphorical argumentation from the aspects of definition, type, structure and refutation, which lays the foundation for the following formal characterization; The second part introduces the theoretical foundation and main achievements of the formal argumentation system, including the Dung-style abstract argumentation theory and the structured argumentation system represented by the ASPIC+framework; The third part firstly formalizes the mapping reasoning process of metaphorical argument by introducing seven kinds of reasoning rules, and constructs a structured framework applicable for metaphorical argumentation.Secondly,we use the generated structured framework to analyze a case of metaphorical argumentation. Finally, combined with the attacks in the ASPIC+ framework,we discuss the possible attacks of metaphorical argumentation, thereby analyzing the defeasability of metaphorical argumentation.
