Objective:Through data mining of prescriptions for five common dermatoses(acne, rosacea, chloasma, eczema and psoriasis)recorded in ancient texts,we analyzed and summarized the rules of medication and combinations for the internal and external treatment of each dermatosis to provide clinical reference for the treatment of the five diseases in modern times. At the same time,a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences between the internal and external treatments of the five dermatological diseases was conducted, and the common features of the external treatments of the five dermatological diseases were summarized to provide a preliminary analysis of the external treatments of the dermatological diseases, thus providing a basis for the external treatment of the dermatological diseases. Methods:Internal and external prescriptions for five dermatological conditions from the Chinese Medical Canon were collected and screened.Frequency analysis, association rule analysis, cluster analysis and factor analysis were performed using Excel 2013,SPSS modeler 15.0 and SPSS statistics 25.0.Results:1 A total of 55 internal prescriptions and 273 external prescriptions for acne were included.A total of 16 high-frequency drugs for internal use and 32 high-frequency drugs for external use were calculated. The most common medicinal properties of drugs taken internally are cold, followed by warm and mild, while the most common medicinal properties of drugs used externally are warm, followed by cold and mild. The top three tastes of medicines taken internally are bitter, sweet and pungent, while the top three tastes of medicines used externally are pungent, sweet and bitter. In terms of meridians, the top three meridians for internal drugs were lung, liver and stomach meridians, while the top three meridians for external drugs were lung, stomach and spleen meridians. The analysis of the association rules for drugs taken internally obtained 49 groups of drug combinations, mainly in the combination of cold and warm drugs, and the combination of exterior drugs and interior drugs. The analysis of the association rules for drugs used externally obtained 51 groups of drug combinations, with the focus on the combination of drugs to disperse nodules and eliminate swelling.Cluster analysis of internal drugs obtained 13 groups of drug combinations, and factor analysis extracted 8 common factors.Cluster analysis of topical drugs obtained 17 drug combinations and extracted 14 common factors.2 A total of 87 internal prescriptions and 184 external prescriptions for rosacea were included, which were calculated to obtain 18 drugs of high frequency for internal use and 18 drugs of high frequency for external use.The top three internal medications were cold, followed by warm and mild, while the top three external medications were warm, followed by cold and mild. The top three tastes of medicines taken internally are bitter, pungent and sweet, while the top three tastes of medicines used externally are pungent, bitter and sweet, respectively. In terms of meridians, the top three meridians for internal drugs were also the lung, liver and stomach meridians, while the top three meridians for external drugs were the liver, spleen and lung meridians. The analysis of the association rules for drugs taken internally obtained 27 groups of drug combinations;the analysis of the association rules for drugs used externally obtained 22 groups of drug combinations.Cluster analysis of internal drugs resulted in 11 drug combinations, and factor analysis extracted 11 common factors.Cluster analysis of topical drugs resulted in 11 drug combinations, and 17 common factors were extracted.3 A total of 35 internal prescriptions for chloasma and 120 external prescriptions were included, which were calculated to result in 11 high-frequency drugs for internal use and 22 high-frequency drugs for external use.The top three internal medications were also cold in nature, followed by warm and mild in nature, while the top three external medications were warm in nature, followed by cold and mild in nature. The top three flavours of drugs taken internally are sweet, pungent and bitter, while the top three flavours of drugs used externally are pungent, sweet and bitter. In terms of meridians, the top three meridians for internal drugs were the lung, liver and spleen meridians, while the top two for external drugs were the liver and lung meridians, and the spleen and stomach meridians were tied for third place. The analysis of the association rules for internally administered drugs resulted in 15 groups of drug combinations;the analysis of the association rules for externally applied drugs resulted in 47 groups of drug combinations.Eight drug combinations were obtained from the cluster analysis of internal drugs;15 drug combinations were obtained from the cluster analysis of external drugs, and 15 common factors were extracted from the factor analysis.4 A total of 66 internal prescriptions and 766 external prescriptions for eczema were included, resulting in 17 high-frequency drugs for internal use and 36 high-frequency drugs for external use.The top three internal medications were also cold, followed by warm and mild, while the top three external medications were cold, followed by warm and mild. The top three flavours of drugs taken internally are bitter, pungent and sweet, while the top three flavours of drugs used externally are pungent, bitter and sweet, respectively. In terms of meridians, the top three meridians for internal drugs were liver, lung and spleen meridians, while the top three meridians for external drugs were liver, spleen and stomach meridians. The analysis of the association rules for drugs taken internally obtained 43 groups of drug combinations, while the analysis of the association rules for drugs used externally obtained 35 groups of drug combinations. The cluster analysis of internal drugs resulted in 10 drug combinations, and the factor analysis extracted 13 common factors;the cluster analysis of external drugs resulted in 17 drug combinations, and the factor analysis extracted 41 common factors.5 A total of 156 internal prescriptions and 539 external prescriptions for psoriasis were included, resulting in 35 internal high-frequency drugs and 40 external high-frequency drugs. The medicinal properties of drugs taken internally are also most cold in nature, followed by warm and mild in nature, while the medicinal properties of drugs used externally are most warm in nature, followed by cold and mild in nature. The top three tastes of medicines taken internally are bitter;pungent and sweet, while the top three tastes of medicines used externally are pungent, bitter and sweet, respectively. In terms of meridians, the top three meridians for internal drugs were liver, lung and spleen meridians, while the top three meridians for external drugs were liver, spleen and stomach meridians. The analysis of the association rules for drugs taken internally resulted in 46 groups of drug combinations, while the analysis of the association rules for drugs used externally resulted in 36 groups of drug combinations. The cluster analysis of internal drugs obtained 10 groups of drug combinations, and the factor analysis extracted 22 common factors;the cluster analysis of external drugs obtained 13 groups of drug combinations, and extracted 32 common factors.Conclusions:1 The external and internal medications for the five dermatological conditions have some commonalities. The types of topical drugs and the distribution characteristics of their properties, tastes and channel tropism are generally consistent with those of the internal drugs, and the external drugs for the five dermatological conditions show some commonalities with each other, and this commonality is especially evident when compared with the internal drugs.2 In terms of the characteristics of HF drugs, compared to the internal drugs, the topical drugs used for the five dermatological conditions show the following characteristics:a large number of ore-based and insect-based drugs are used, most of the drugs are harsh and violent, and more of the drugs are used to attack toxins, kill insects and relieve itching,as well as to be myogenic of rot.3 In terms of the nature and taste of the drugs, the external medications for the five dermatological conditions have more pronounced warming properties than the internal medications. The five dermatological drugs for external use all have a greater proportion of pungent flavours than the drugs taken internally. This is the most common characteristic of the five dermatological topical medications, and also the biggest difference from the internal medications. In addition,in terms of meridians, the topical drugs are similar to the internal drugs, with the liver, lung and spleen meridians being the main ones,as these three internal organs are closely related to qi and blood.4 In terms of drug combinations, although toxic ore-based drugs make up a relatively large proportion of the high-frequency drugs used topically, the results of the cluster analysis and factor analysis show that these ore-based drugs are generally not used in combination with herbaceous drugs of a more moderate nature.Further,in terms of factor contribution, the combination of toxic ore drugs did not account for a significant proportion of the total number of combinations, while the combination of herbaceous drugs with relatively milder medicinal properties was used more often. It is clear that there are limitations to the use of toxic drugs in external treatment.
