| English reading teaching is one of the contents of English Teaching.In senior high school,English reading materials often involve cross-cultural knowledge.The English Curriculum Standards for Senior High Schools(2017)and revised in 2020 further defines the important position of the cultivation of cross-cultural communicative competence in English learning.The purpose of this study is to analyze the current situation of cross-cultural awareness and cross-cultural communicative competence of senior high school students,explore the problems faced by senior high school students in the process of cultivating cross-cultural awareness,and put forward suggestions for improving students’ cross-cultural awareness and cross-cultural communicative competence.This study adopts the research methods of questionnaire and interview,takes 200 students randomly selected from 10 classes of grade 2 of Tongliao No.5 Senior High School as the survey subjects,and 5 teachers randomly selected as the interview subjects.This paper mainly focuses on following two issues:(1)What are the problems in the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness in senior high school English reading teaching?(2)What are the reasons for the problems in the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness in senior high school English reading teaching?Through the investigation,the results show that the teachers and students of Tongliao No.5 Senior High School have the following problems in English reading teaching and the cultivation of cross-cultural awareness: First,the tense teaching tasks of teachers make the opportunity and time of cultural knowledge explanation in the classroom relatively reduced.Second,students ignore the importance of background knowledge for reading learning.Thirdly,due to the lack of mastery of cultural knowledge,students cannot correctly understand the cultural background knowledge in the reading materials.Fourthly,although there are many kinds of learning channels such as network,teachers and students cannot make full use of resources.Aiming at the problems found,this paper puts forward some strategies to improve the cultivation of students’ cross-cultural awareness in English reading teaching: First,schools and teachers should create a relaxed environment and atmosphere which conducive to cultural knowledge learning.Second,teachers should use curriculum resources to teach relevant cultural knowledge in language teaching.Thirdly,teachers should develop relevant extracurricular activities to cultivate students’ cross-cultural awareness.Fourthly,students should participate in reading teaching activities inside and outside class to experience cultural connotation.Fifthly,students should cultivate cross-cultural awareness by watching excellent films and reading literary works.Sixthly,teachers should take the form of cooperative learning to improve students’ autonomy and enthusiasm in learning cross-cultural knowledge. |
