The source text of this report is the annual IEA Global Energy Review 2020,issued in April,2020.It includes the change of CO2emissions and specific situation of energy demand under the influence of the COVID-19 and predication of the rest of the year,belonging to informative texts.The international energy demand and COVID-19 are two hot topics in the world,which has strong practicality.Besides,the translator has not found the Chinese version so far at home and abroad.Therefore,it’s of certain significance of the translator to use it in the report.Having summarized the content and language characteristics of scientificity and timeliness after analyzing the Global Energy Review 2020,the translator uses appropriate translation strategies and techniques guided by Newmark?s communicative translation theory.Then the translator takes the Global Energy Review 2020 as the example and analyzes it in detail,concluding the specific practice of communicative translation theory in informative texts and aiming to improve the acceptability of the translation in public.This report can be divided into five chapters.In the first chapter,the translator introduces the significance of the source text,features of it and problems in the translation;in the second chapter,she introduces the overview of the communicative translation theory and feasibility of the communicative translation theory in the informative texts;she also briefly presents the pre-translation preparations,while-translation process and post-translation editing;in the fourth chapter,the translator analyzes the translation techniques used for lexical,syntactic and textual level under the guidance of communicative translation theory;finally,she concludes the practice of the report.In the report,the analysis of case analysis shows how is the communicative translation theory used in the informative texts.At the lexical level,the translator mainly discusses cases about translation techniques of conversion,amplification,omission and the translation of nouns(involving hot words,proper nouns and energy terminologies);as for the syntactic level,the translator introduces the technique of inversion,sentence division and restructuring and the translation of passive sentences;she also focuses on the keyword repetition and conjunction explication at textual level.The translation of the source text improves the translation skills of the translator and concludes the practice of communicative translation theory in the informative texts,providing reference for scholars.In this report,the translator explores the E-C translation principles of the source text which is scientific and timely.Besides,it improves the target readers’understanding of the energy use under the influence of COVID-19,providing a complete reading material for target readers to know more about the impact of COVID-19 in the future.
