An Analysis Of Xiong Deshan’s Social History Research

Xiong Deshan,the pioneer of Chinese Marxist historiography,has made important contributions to the history of Chinese revolution and the spread of Marxism.After the October Revolution in Russia,people began to actively explore the use of Marxism to solve social problems in China.At this time,social sciences flourished as a "study of national salvation",and Marxism was widely spread.In this context,Xiong Deshan realized the transformation from a veteran of the Tongmenghui to an early Marxist historian.When Xiong Deshan was studying in Japan in his early years,he had taken the initiative to come into contact with some ideas of Marxism and the sociological theories of Western scholars such as Morgan.At that time,Xiong Deshan’s research on women’s issues and labor issues showed that he already had a sociological research orientation with Marxist theory as the core;Xiong Deshan was also guided by the historical materialism in his translations,especially Shan Chuanjun’s "Material History"The description of the changes in the land system in the primitive society period in "A View of Economic History"gave Xiong Deshan great inspiration to study China’s well-field system.Xiong Deshan’s understanding of China’s commercial capital also largely accepted Shan Chuanjun’s interpretation of commercial capital.Xiong Deshan’s academic thinking was also influenced by his own unique revolutionary experience.Xiong Deshan changed from a pioneer of the Tongmenghui to a member of the Communist Party of China.After joining the Federation,he actively promoted Marxism and fought against non-Marxist ideas.Many of Xiong Deshan’s academic friends such as Li Da’s views are also one of the sources of Xiong Deshan’s ideas.Li Da’s understanding of China’s labor problems,unemployment problems,and the impact of the imperialist invasion on China’s economy has given him a certain degree of understanding.Xiong Deshan enlightenment.Xiong Deshan participated in the social history debate which occupies an important position in modern academic history.In the debate on social history,Xiong Deshan published articles such as"A Narrative of the History of Chinese Peasant Problems" and "Research on the Occurrence of Commercial Capital in China".It can be seen that Xiong Deshan’s academic thoughts are basically consistent with the CCP’s "New Thought"faction.Xiong Deshan is one of the earliest scholars in China in the field of social history research.However,due to objective reasons such as the failure to publish Xiong Deshan’s posthumous works,Xiong Deshan has not received enough attention in the narrative of academic history.A comprehensive study of Xiong Deshan’s academic thought is of great significance for understanding the process of the integration of Marxism into the academic circles of the Republic of China.
