Digital art is an art form that uses the digital medium.Digital art differs most from traditional art forms in that it allows the viewer to interact directly with the artwork.Digital Art can be roughly defined into two categories,Digital installation Art that continue the paradigm of modern and post-modern art,and Generative Art.This type of digital art is centered on visual communication and lacks the necessary narrative.Another type that is gaining momentum with the spread of computer technology is game art. With its emphasis on the integrity of the experience, game art places a much greater emphasis on narrative than digital installation art and generative art and has developed a unique approach to interactive narrative.Of these game genres with unique interactive narratives, walking simulation games are the most discussed, and the ones that best represent the collision of game form and art. This thesis analyses walking simulation games as a typical example of digital art capable of presenting interactive narratives, and analyses the temporality, spatiality, and subjectivity of interactive narratives and their value in real life. The paper begins with a logical introduction to why walking simulation games are a typical form of interactive narrative, focusing on the conditions for the formation of interactive narration and the forms of presentation of interactive narration in digital art.The thesis also reviews the development of walking simulation games and summarises the characteristics of walking simulation games. The thesis analyses the interactive narrative characteristics of walking simulation games in two dimensions:temporality and spatiality. For the interactive nature of digital art, narratives are no longer represented solely as abstract textual narratives, but rather as a combination of multiple media. To maximize the overview of this integrated representation, the paper chooses temporality and spatiality as entry points for analysis.Concerning spatial narratives, the thesis will analyze both environmental narratives and emergent narratives in interactive narratives. For temporality, the paper will analyze the temporal structure and temporal logic in walking simulation games from the perspective of Todorov’s doctrine of narrative time. Finally, the thesis will present a unique point in the interactive narrative of walking simulation games, namely the narration of subjectivity. This thesis will look at the dual identity of characters in walking simulation games and the characteristics of meta-narratives.It will explain why walking sim ulation games create a depth of expression that digital art that ordinary games and exhibitions do not achieve. In summary, the walking simulation game,as the archetype of interactive narrative, not only connects art and technology but also deepens the use of art in the digital medium.More importantly,it deals with the relationship and contradictions between human existence and the existence of the cyber world and allows for philosophical and aesthetic reflection.
