| Motivation and Psychology by Abraham H.Maslow is a classic work in humanistic psychology field.Its Chinese translation project is commissioned by Chongqing Yunbin Translation Co.,Ltd.and presided over by the reporter’s supervisor Dr.Zhao Wei.The book consists of 16 chapters where Maslow reveals the positive human nature through exploring human motivation and needs.This report is based on the reporter’s translation of Chapter 15 "Psychotherapy,Health,and Motivation" and Chapter 16 "Normality,Health and Values".The highly academic book features technical concepts and complicated syntax,requiring a precise understanding and clear and fluent expression.According to the project quality requirements,the translation should be faithful,expressive and elegant,which are also the translation standards for this practice.On the one hand,this report provides a detailed description of the translation process,including translation preparation and specific translation tools.On the other hand,under the guiding principles of "faithfulness and expressiveness",solutions to specific problems are discussed from the lexical and syntactic levels.At the lexical level,this report mainly discusses standardized translation of psychological terms and contextualized translation of polysemous words.At the syntactic level,long sentences,passive sentences and cohesive devices are addressed from the perspective of Chinese-English comparison.This project is expected to contribute to the study of Maslow’s psychological thoughts in China.Besides,it is hoped that this report will provide reference for the translation and introduction of psychological works. |
