| Nowadays,the Internet has become indispensable in our daily life and has provided great convenience for our work,study and life.Meanwhile,however,the cyberspace has also provided opportunities for criminal activities.To some extent,the cyberspace has even become a hotbed of crimes.Therefore,how to reduce or even eliminate cyber-crimes and how to better protect the information of network users have become important issues in policing work.This translation practice report is based on the translation of the fifth chapter in Cyberspace,Data Analytics,and Policing.This chapter mainly talks about data analysis methods such as deduction and induction,as well as policing modes such as intelligence-led policing and hot spot policing.The translation of this chapter can offer readers more knowledge of new criminal means in cyberspace,as well as data analysis in policing work,which can help raise readers’ consciousness protecting personal information.This translation report is divided into four parts.The first part describes the translation task,which gives a brief introduction to the source text,its author and the significance of the translation.The second part explains the translation process,mainly including pre-translation preparation,difficulties in translation and revision.The third part is cases study,which present analyses of the difficult points at lexical,syntactical discourse and rhetoric levels.The lexical analysis concerns technical terms,proper nouns,diction and part-of-speech conversion.The syntactic analysis involves the translation of attributives,appositive clauses,passive sentences,long and difficult sentences.The discourse analysis focuses on textual cohesion and semantic coherence,to enhance the readability of the translated text.The rhetoric analysis focuses on the translation of metaphor.The fourth part is the summary of translation practice.The author,through self-retrospection,summarizes the gains from the translation practice,particularly the deeper understanding of the professionalism in translation,and points out the efforts to be made for future translation work. |
