| Language is a symbol of culture and a direct path to transmit culture.In English teaching,integrating the native culture of the learner’s life field into English learning can not only develop the learner’s practical ability to comprehensively use the language,but also strengthen the learner’s identification and dissemination of the native culture.English teachers should not only pay attention to the teaching of language knowledge,but also pay attention to cultural factors,especially the important role of native culture in foreign language teaching.This research takes Senior High English Textbooks by Beijing Normal University as an example.Based on the analysis of the current situation of the integration of native culture into the reading text of English textbooks,the following two research questions are studied.First,what is the current situation of native culture integration in high school English reading teaching texts? Second,how to Enhance the Integration of native culture in high school English reading teaching?This research is based on Vygotsky’s cultural schema theory,sociocultural theory,and constructivist theory.Based on previous research on how native culture was integrated into English reading teaching,this study takes the students from Grade One of Tianshui No.1 Middle School in Gansu Province as the research object,and takes the Compulsory One of Senior High English Textbooks by Beijing Normal University as an example to conduct textual analysis on the integration of native culture in reading texts,and then conducts questionnaire surveys and interviews with students and teachers on the current situation of reading teaching.The results of this study indicate that there is a lack of native culture content in high school English reading texts and the teaching of native culture in high school English reading is fragmented.The main reasons are reflected in the following three aspects:(1)Insufficient support from educational departments and schools for the use of native cultural resources;(2)Students have little awareness of the "native culture" under the big idea and lack of subjectivity in using native cultural resources;(3)Teachers’ awareness of actively integrating native culture into reading teaching in daily teaching is not enough.In view of the above reasons,this study,guided by the English big idea and other principles,first sorts out the native cultural resources integrated in reading texts in terms of type and content.Then,on how to integrate native culture to high school English reading texts,through the discussion of specific teaching cases,the possible routes of native culture into English reading teaching is summarized,which makes English reading teaching structured,relevant,deep and transferable when integrated to native culture,that is(1)Clarify the big ideas of the unit based on text interpretation;(2)Design instructional objectives oriented to the inquiry of the big ideas of the unit;(3)Design teaching activities based on the big ideas of this unit and reasonably integrate native culture. |
