| Driven by the needs of vocational English teaching, this paper studies the effects of different film input modes and different involvement loads on students’ incidental vocabulary acquisition.Memorizing words always makes higher vocational students feel anxious. They lack effective vocabulary acquisition strategies. As an English teacher, how to adopt appropriate film input mode, configure appropriate involvement load,to improve students’ vocabulary memory and retention, and maximize the efficiency of incidental vocabulary acquisition, which has realistic significance and practical value for higher vocational English teaching. This study adopts 2*2 experimental design.120 sophomores participated in this experiment.Film input modes can be divided into "audio+text subtitle" and "audio+video+text subtitle".Involvement loads can be divided into "multiple choice" and"translation".SPSS 22.0 was used to analyze the experimental data. The results show that:1.There is no significant main effect of film input mode on immediate memory of words, but there is a significant main effect on delayed retention.2.The involvement load had significant main effect on both immediate memory and delayed retention. The greater the involvement load, the better the effect of students’vocabulary memory and retention.3.There is no interaction effect between film input mode and involvement load on vocabulary memory and retention. The experimental results are analyzed and explained in detail. In future research, students can be further divided into visual learners and auditory learners according to perceptual learning styles.Writing and Reading task can also be added. |
