| The source text is excerpted from a legal monograph,On Marriage Life and Rights in China. It mainly analyzes marriage problems in China from the perspective of marriage rights, which is of great significance for foreign scholars studying China’s marriage rights.Based on Peter Newmark’s theory of text analysis, the source text is an informative text. And its core function is to provide information. In the translation process, the translator encounters legal terms, fuzzy words, and culture-loaded words. And the translation of long sentences and non-subject sentences,as well as too much information contained in sentences between discourses and how to achieve coherence, are also big challenges. So the translator adopts the Skopos theory as the guiding theory to solve the translation problems. To fulfill the goal of presenting information to the target readers, the translator mostly uses a combination of literal translation and free translation.Based on the principle of fidelity, the translator consults a lot of parallel texts and parallel corpora such as Terminology Online to solve the vocabulary problem and make it faithful to the source text.As for long and complex sentences and non-subject sentences, the translator mainly adopts techniques such as division, reorganization, addition of subjects, and shift of voice to make the translation coherent. |
