| This report is based on the English-Chinese mock consecutive interpreting task of Stanford China Economic Forum: Session One,with the future of business education of China and the US as its theme.In this forum,four education leaders from China and the US share how their schools are dealing with a crisis like Covid-19 and social unrest and exchange the latest progress in online business education in the past year.The forum is conducted in an online Q&A format.Taking interpreting as an interpreter-mediated cross-language communication process and drawing upon the Communication Theory,the interpreter understands the importance of minimizing the negative impact of communication noises during the process and works out the principle of pursuing information accuracy,the principle of optimizing information efficiency,and the principle of maximizing the communication effect,to guide her interpreting task.To overcome the communication noises,the interpreter keeps a sound mental state,makes full use of note-taking,and pays attention to the ideas and their connections rather than the verbal meaning of each word.To pursue interpreting accuracy,the interpreter works very hard to keep the completeness of the information and interprets important terms based on the context.In optimizing efficiency,the interpreter needs to omit or summarize information when the message is over-redundant and treat the tags according to their concrete meaning.To maximize communication effect,the interpreter needs to bear the audience in mind and try to convey appropriate emotion,sort out the speaker’s logic,clarify references,and supplement necessary information.All are aimed to facilitate information transmission and achieve communication effectiveness.The interpreter hopes that she can upgrade her interpreting techniques and enrich her subject knowledge in educational and economic fields through this interpreting practice.Moreover,more Chinese audiences who are concerned about those fields can gain a deeper understanding of the latest progress in online education and its future.The interpreter also hopes that this report can provide some feasible suggestions for later interpreting researchers to conduct their study under the guidance of Communication Theory. |
