As the Covid-10 wreaks havoc around the world,the global education system has been greatly affected.The future of higher education has also become a concern of many people.Under the context,the Straits Times and Singapore Management University hold an education webinar with the theme of “Reimagining Universities,Post-Covid”.Three panelists are invited to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on higher education and to make a prospect for the future of higher education.The interpreter chooses this corpus to conduct simulated simultaneous interpreting as,on the one hand,it is in line with people’s current concern,the interpreter hopes people can gain enlightenment from the forum through this interpreting practice;on the other hand,the interpreter finds her weaknesses in interpreting,so as to sum up experience and make improvement.Based on Gile’s Effort Model,the report analyzes six kinds of challenges and their coping tactics in interpreting.First,the interpreter encounters the challenges of terms and idioms,and adopts the tactics like delaying the response,fuzzy interpreting,parrot interpreting and inference;Second,the interpreter employs summarizing and segmentation to deal with high-density information;compression to cope with redundancy;In terms of the syntactic structure differences and self correction,tactics like restructuring,conversion and shelving are adopted.After finishing the task,the interpreter evaluates her performance based on Buhler’s interpretation quality evaluation model.Through peer review and self reflection,the interpreter finds out the problems existing in the interpreting process,such as information loss and stiff expression.Finally,the interpreter makes a summary of the whole interpreting process,so as to provide reference for other interpreters.
