The cutting technology of textile materials in China is advancing rapidly. However, compared with that in developed countries, there is much to learn from them. Therefore, the translator hopes to provide references for relevant staffs and translators in China’s textile industry by translating the cutting process and technology of Industrial Cutting of Textile Materials. This paper selected the first three chapters from Industrial Cutting of Textile Materials as the source language and consisted of four chapters:the background of the report, the translation process, the theoretical application and case analysis, and the summary.Guided by Eugene·A·Nida’s Functional Equivalence theory, this paper mainly discusses how to realize the equivalence at lexical, syntactic, discourse and stylistic levels by analyzing examples in translation. One of the difficulties in this translation practice is that the translator’s professional knowledge is not solid enough, for some professional words in the original text have special meanings, which requires the translator to read some professional books to master sci-tech knowledge or turn to the professionals for advice.Besides, there exists many long sentences and complex structures in sci-tech texts, the translator needs to clarify the sentence structure and components in order to translate them appropriately. In the translating process, the translator comes to realize that professional knowledge and translation skills are equally important and can only be obtained through accumulation and practice. This experience not only helps the translator learn more about sci-tech English and the cutting technology of foreign textile materials, but also improves the application ability of translation techniques.
