Environment is the basis of human survival, and everyone is responsible for protecting the ecological environment,so the translation and dissemination of such texts are extremely important. Therefore, chapters 5 and 6 of reoccupy earth written by David Wood,a famous contemporary American ecological philosopher, are selected as translation materials for this project. The book focuses on the philosophical views of Heidegger,Derrida, and Levinas,as well as the author’s own rational thinking on ecological philosophy.Since the content of the book is rather obscure and jargon-ridden,Rice’s theory of text type can help the translator better present the style of the original text.According to her text typology theory, the translator divides the original text into three different types of texts and adopts corresponding translation strategies to analyze and solve the translation challenges. For informative texts, the translator strives for plain and simple translations to convey all the alleged or conceptual contents of the original text;for expressive texts, the main task is to convey the form of the original text, the author’s unique style and the aesthetic effect at the same time;for operative texts, the translator uses the unique expressions of Chinese to reserve the typological characteristics of the original texts and ensure that the readers’ reactions are consistent with the original author’s expectations. This report consists of four chapters: Chapter 1 is an introduction to the book and related theories;Chapter 2 is a compendium of the entire translation process;Chapter 3 is the main body of this report,a case-specific analysis and discussion;and Chapter 4 is a summary,in which the translator tries to find out the guiding conclusions of text typology for translating eco-philosophical texts.
