The report chooses the second chapter of Gender,Agency and Change as source translation material under the theoretical guidance of Hans J.Vermeer?s skopos theory. The second chapter is an informational text written by American anthropology professor Karen Tranberg Hansen, whose most studies are conducted in Zambia. From the original text,it can be known that people?s ingrained norms on gender difference in Zambia society and culture have influence on the clothing practice of Zambian young people. Therefore, the original work covers a wide range. In addition to names of people in professional fields, there are a large number of complex sentences and terminologies in the original text, such as “cultural presuppositions”,“identity negotiation”,“embodiment”,all of which have made the translation more difficult. There are four chapters in the report. In the first chapter, there is introduction to the original author, the main content and language characteristics of the source text,as well as the translation theory; The second chapter describes the whole translation process in detail, including preparation before translation, proofreading after translation, and efforts the translator has made during this practice; In Chapter Three, there are many case analysis to explain different translation methods and strategies used in the translation process to solve specific problems under the guidance of skopos theory;Chapter Four summarizes the problems and gains encountered in this translation practice. On the basis of a complete understanding of the original text, the translator analyses the language features of the source text from lexical level, syntactic level, and discourse level to provide target readers with a version that meet Chinese language habits and achieve an ideal communicative effect. At the same time, the translation endeavors to meet requires of academic text, which should be accurate and professional like the original work.In skopos theory,Vermeer believes that translation is a purposeful behavior, and the main purpose is to achieve cross-cultural communication. The translation methods and strategies are determined by the purpose of translation and the translator?s comprehension of the original text,so that both inter-lingual and intra-lingual coherence can be achieved. Therefore, while conveying the meaning of the original author, the translation must meet the language habits of the target text to make it understandable.According to three rules of skopos theory, which are skopos rule, coherence rule, and fidelity rule, some translation methods are applied based on the language features of the original text in the case analysis, such as part of speech conversion, conversion of voice, splitting and restructuring, addition and omission.Through this practice, the translator has accumulated vast experience and lessons, gained a deeper understanding of translation skopos theory and social anthropology,as well as an initial recognition to the social and cultural background of Zambia, especially the clothing practice of Zambian young people. In addition, her ability of translation and literature search has been improved, all of which will provide valuable guidance on her future translation.
