This paper is a report on an English-Chinese translation practice with the application of computer-assisted translation software. The source text of translation is selected from White Fragility, which is written by Robin Di Angelo,an American sociologist in whiteness.SDL Trados is selected as the computer-assisted translation tool during the translation practice, which can dramatically improve the efficiency of nonfiction translation. The translator firstly analyzed the text, then established a term base,a translation memory after collecting and referring to a large amount of paralleled texts, which will be used in translation project by using the SDL Trados. While translating the project, the translator revised and polished the translation results continuously and stored the results in the translation memory.During the process, the translator summarized the practical experience of computer-assisted translation, and applied translation techniques such as annotation and paraphrase to solve the problems in the translation, achieving the consistency and smoothness of the target text. After the translation, the translator compared the original text and the translation in detail, corrected some expressions and logical problems in this translation practice, and summarized the project. This report consists of six chapters. The first chapter introduces the translation project briefly, which includes the analysis and characteristics of the source text.In the second chapter,it introduces the functions, operation and merits of the computer-assisted tool — SDL Trados applied in the translation project. The third chapter presents the theoretical framework and introduces the application of Reiss’ s text typology. In the fourth chapter, the translator elaborates the translation process which consists of the preparation before the translation, the modification during the translation, and the feedback after the translation. The fifth chapter is the case analysis,in which the translator puts forward the suitable translation strategies to address the issues encountered in the translation practice with the guidance of Reiss’ s text typology. The last part is the feedback and conclusion for the application of SDL Trados and Reiss’ s text typology.By using SDL Trados, the efficiency and quality of translation has significantly improved. In addition, the translator uses proper translation strategies to deal with the translation difficulties caused by cultural differences with the guidance of Reiss’ s text typology so as to accurately convey the completed information of the original text, and the target readers will learn more about racism after reading the translation.
