| Yu Hua’s To Live was first published in the sixth issue of Harvest in 1992,and was classified as a novella in the magazine’s Novelette column. In 1993,Changjiang Literature and Art Publishing House published To Live for the first time, adding tens of thousands of words to the magazine version of "Harvest",and published it in a single line in the form of a novel. The subsequent editions of To Live are based on this version and published by the Upper Correction. The revision of To Live not only brings about the improvement of language expression, but also expands the theme. The textual meaning of the novel is richer and the narrative techniques are more mature. This modification is the result of a combination of factors such as film adaptation needs, writers’ artistic pursuits, and social context changes. The different texts between the two versions constitute the basis for understanding Yu Hua’s creative transformation in the 90 s.The different fates of the two editions are vivid reflections of the ebb of the vanguard in the 90 s,the reform of the literary production system, and the changes in the book publishing market. This paper cuts into Yu Hua’s literary creation from the perspective of version research, and based on the existing research, systematically sorts out the version changes of To Live, exploring the origin, process, result and impact of the changes in the version of To Live.Taking this as the cornerstone to analyze Yu Hua’s subsequent creations,it opens up a new perspective for understanding Yu Hua’s creations. |
