| Located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean,Pacific island countries are important routes for maritime traffic and an important part of the Belt and Road Initiative.For China,the Pacific island countries have a unique and important significance.In recent years,new breakthroughs have been made in the cooperation between China and Pacific island countries in the fields of economy,trade,investment,tourism and education,and political and economic ties have been strengthened.At the same time,China’s demand for relevant resources and information is getting higher and higher,and the importance of researches on Pacific island countries is becoming increasingly prominent.Guided by Reiss’ s text typology theory,this paper takes the E-C translation of Improving Employment Opportunities in Pacific Island Developing Countries,a regional research report on some developing countries in the Pacific islands published by the United Nations in 2007,as an example to discuss the characteristics,translation principles and translation methods of long sentences in informative texts.The source text is a text of humanities and social sciences with strong logic in language,and its main purpose is to convey information and describe things and facts.According to Reiss’ s text typology theory,this text is an informative text,and the translator should pay attention to the accuracy,conciseness and readability of the language,use concise language to accurately convey the information in the source text so that the translation can conform to the idiomatic expressions of target languages.In terms of the translation of long sentences,the methods of embedding,cutting,inversion,splitting-off,inserting and restructuring are adopted to accurately reproduce the content of the source text while making the sentence smooth and in line with the reading habits of the target language readers.After completing the translation,the translator has better mastered the translation methods of long sentences in informative texts,and the translation will help Chinese readers have a more comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the economic,political and social development of the Pacific island countries,provide support and help for researchers,and make up for the data gap in relevant fields,which has important implications for researches on Pacific island countries. |
