| Dong Qichang’s artistic achievements in calligraphy were far-reaching,with the highest attainments in cursive calligraphy,and his style of calligraphy was ethereal and airy,sparse and dashing.Since the late Ming Dynasty,it has been highly sought after by emperors and calligraphy enthusiasts alike.The accumulation of Dong Qichang’s early life experience in calligraphy laid a solid foundation for his later cursive style,and his cursive style after the age of seventy was more self-contained.The author explores the artistic characteristics of Dong Qichang’s later cursive style,combining his social and cultural background,his travel experience,and his calligraphic experience,in order to find the causes of Dong Qichang’s later cursive style.In his old age,Dong Qichang’s cursive script had developed to a state of perfection,but he continued to explore and improve it.On top of his previous artistic accumulation,he fused various schools and presented his own sparse and pale artistic style.Based on the analysis of Dong Qichang’s later works,I roughly classify the artistic characteristics of Dong Qichang’s later calligraphy into the following two categories: "taking the method of Yan and Yang,pale and rounded" and "fusing various schools,pale and clumsy and light".The common characteristics of "taking the method of Yan and Yang,strong and rounded" include the use of strokes with convergence,wide interjection,sparse and dashing chapter style,thick and light ink rhyme,etc.;the common characteristics of "fusion of various schools,clumsy and sparse" include the fusion of various schools,the start of strokes with smoothness and The common features of "fusion of all schools,pale,clumsy,sparse and light" are the fusion of all schools,the starting strokes that follow the trend and the ending characters that have both closure and release.The artistic characteristics of Dong Qichang’s later cursive calligraphy need to be analyzed in detail from the subtleties of brushwork,character formation,and chapter style,in order to "analyze the appearance from the outside and guide the true source from the inside".In the study of Dong Qichang’s later cursive script,Dong Qichang’s ideas on the study of calligraphy,such as Linguistic view,creative view,aesthetic view,and cultivation view,have enlightened and influenced the author,adding theoretical guidance to the author in the process of learning calligraphy.Accordingly,I take Dong Qichang’s later cursive script as the object of my creation,and learn Dong Qichang’s later cursive script step by step through the practice methods of actual,combined,memorized,and intentional cursive.Based on the style of Dong Qichang’s later cursive script,the series of cursive works in various forms will present two series of themes: "Cang and Clumsiness" for exhibition hall effect and "Leisure and Elegance" for interior effect.Finally,the series of graduation works were summarized in terms of insights and reflections,with a view to truly advancing the skills,art and path in the future. |
