With the continuous development of society,people’s nightlife has changed from Moonlight,starlight and candlelight to the mapping and dress up of various lights.The visual experience brought by night scene has become more diverse,so there are more and more works depicting night scene in contemporary painting.Due to the uniqueness of the light source in the night scene,the color,shape and line of things in the night scene are not as easy to determine and grasp as in the day.Whether people or things,everything has become mysterious,chaotic,deep and hidden from time to time.At this time,the light is more of a silent presentation.So how do we construct light and reflect this silent light in contemporary night scene painting?This paper studies the light in the night scene painting of different Western artists,and analyzes the role of light in their painting and the relationship between light and silence.The first chapter briefly expounds the elements of light in night scene painting.Firstly,it analyzes the changes of the unique light source in night scene painting with the development of the times.Secondly,the layout of light and its influence on space and composition are analyzed.The second chapter discusses the relationship between light and silence through case analysis and comparative analysis.The third chapter takes Munch,Van Gogh and other artists as examples to analyze the embodiment of this silent light on the artist’s emotion.The fourth chapter analyzes the time spirit given by the light in the paintings of hopper and others to counter the value of sightseeing in contemporary night scene painting.Finally,it summarizes the construction characteristics of light in night scene painting,so as to provide a reference direction for contemporary night scene painting.
