Modern sculpture is an open proposition that blends Eastern and Western cultures, and the field of art also covers a variety of fields.Eastern and Western art have something in common when confronting the theme of man and nature, and artists pay attention to the relationship between man and nature. The relationship between nature and sculpture requires the artist to pay attention to the nature of nature, the image of nature and the objects of nature, and the combination of natural elements and sculpture is the embodiment of the artist’s thinking with human essence and natural ontology.Human knowledge and understanding of nature has gone through a long process, from ancient times to the present, throughout the entire history of mankind, the formation and development of the concept of nature has had an important impact on various civilizations, and the art of each era has shown different humanistic imprints. The use of natural elements in sculpture creation can be roughly divided into three categories, one is to express natural symbols, take natural elements as language symbols, and re-artistically interpret natural phenomena through physical media;the second is to use natural materials, take natural elements as creative materials, and create art through the direct use or transformation of natural materials;the third is to shape the image of nature, take natural elements as artistic means and ultimate purposes, and turn the understanding and reaction to nature into a kind of existence. This paper takes the specific cases of the use of natural elements in contemporary sculpture as the research object, explores the different manifestations of the combination of nature and art in contemporary sculpture, and then sorts out the use of natural elements in contemporary sculpture, providing ideas for the study and creation of sculpture.
