Throughout the history of art development,most of the outstanding works are innovated and developed from old ones,which means that it is particularly important to study and learn from the predecessors.Rockwell Kent is one of the most excellent artists,his works demonstrate a concern for human society and contain a strong sense of social responsibility.It has an important referential value for artists in today’s changing world,especially now in the pandemic of COVID-19 that art creation should take root in time and artists should carry their responsibilities.The author recorded his life and emotions in the pandemic in "The Pandemic" series,which was inspired by Rockwell Kent’s printmaking art.The author tried to apply the spiritual connotation in Rockwell Kent’s printmaking art to his works.Also the author tried to achieve the purpose of combining Rockwell Kent’s printmaking artistic language with new art concepts and conveying the sense of social responsibility in his art works.The first part of this article shows the background and significance of the topic,summarizes relevant literature and introduces the main research methods.In the second part,Rockwell Kent’s life and his artistic achievements in printmaking art have been summarized and the artistic language of Kent’s printmaking is analyzed from the following aspects: the composition,the black and white patterns,human figures and symbolism with the intention of finding referential value from it.Finally,from the perspectives of creation process and analysis,the author chronologically introduces the printmaking artistic language of Kent in different times.The author believes that learning from predecessors is beneficial for improving the ability of creation.
