| As a single theory that was originally only applied to literary research,narratology theory has shown strong and multi-level theoretical text value in many fields in the long development process.Today,in the field of narratology research,some researchers focus on the research of generalized narratology in a macro sense,trying to present the essence of narratology;some researchers build their own branches for different types of narrative texts,trying to present the essence of narratology.Demonstrate narrative theory from multiple perspectives.But at the root,no matter which way narratology develops,it must have some connection with the context of the times it is in.Relying on the current context of the times,the author tries to explore the following questions:In the era of data explosion and visualization,what does "data story" show as a new form of information visualization and a typical type of narrative text?narrative features?What kind of theoretical demands will the field of narratology breed for this new narrative text?Time and space are the two basic dimensions of narrative,but the temporal nature of narrative is more obvious than space.For data stories with time series,the time points of the storyline are relatively clear,which is more convenient for coding and analysis in the later research at the narrative level.Since data stories are a kind of narrative text based on the background of the visual era,its attributes are intersected and integrated with various traditional narrative texts,such as news,drama novels,film and television images and so on.In response to the above problems,the author uses the winning works in the Kantar "Beauty of Information" competition,a competition with considerable credibility in the field of visualization,as the source of research samples,and selects data stories with time series relationship and narrative as samples.They are placed in the perspective of relevant news narration,dramatic narration and film and television narratology to conduct observational research,and explore from three aspects:"narrative elements","visual narrative language"and "narrative structure".Through the research,the author found that in the new Internet context,the traditional narratological research concept has been re-constructed,and the narrative text is also facing transformation.As far as time-series data stories are concerned,the narrative method has changed from static and linear one-way narrative to dynamic,interactive two-way or even multi-direction narratives jointly participated by visual designers and users;narrative text has changed from a single text form to It is a collection of text,images,videos and even physical installation art;the narrator and the information receiver are in a chaotic state as a whole,and a new type of identity that integrates active output and passive reception begins to appear.Therefore,this research can be regarded as a new narrative text based on time series data stories under the comprehensive background of big data,high informatization,and multi-media integration to further explore and try visual art at the narrative level.However,narrative research should not only be structured at the ideological level,but also actively lead at the action level.The author attempts to explore the narrative features and laws behind the emerging visualization form of data stories,build a design space for data stories,and provide design guidelines for promoting the creation practice of data stories in China,allowing visualization designers to design and create new data. |
