As a famous poet in the Southern Qi Dynasty,Xie Tiao’s psychological changes and fate choices are related to the times, which can reflect the living state of literati in this period. At the same time,Xie Tiao’s life can be regarded as the representative of the unlucky literati. The study of Xie Tiao’s case is helpful to explore and further understand the tragic fate of other poets in the Southern Dynasties and scholars similar to Xie Tiao.Chapter 1 discusses the spiritual temperament of the Southern Dynasties and the ups and downs of the Xie family’s fate. The Southern Dynasties was located in the south of the Yangtze River, which laid the background of "beauty" in the beautiful natural scenery. However, the narrow territory objectively led to the limited spiritual state of the scholars of Qi and Liang dynasties. The political turmoil in the Southern Dynasties was frequent, but the stability of the external setup and the advocacy of the royal family provided the soil for the growth of literature. In addition, the atmosphere of carving words and sentences, chanting temperament and worshipping knowledge pervaded in this period. As a result,Xie Tiao,"the son of the Southern Dynasties",grew up in this atmosphere. What’s more, the fate of Xie Tiao was also deeply affected by the decline of the Xie family. The Xie family was originally a "new portal".After several generations of efforts, they finally became a first-class family.Since the death of the key figure Xie an,the Xie family had been hit frequently, and the sign of decline was coming.By the time of Xie Tiao, the Xie family had declined, and Xie Tiao himself was on the edge of the family. When Xie Tiao first became an official, the stable political environment, his hometown Jiankang and the literati group of Southern Qi constructed a "garden of Eden" for him to have a sense of belonging and realize his self-worth.Xidi literature activity is a concrete reflection of this situation.Chapter 2-5 combs Xie Tiao’s psychological changes from going to Jingzhou to dying.Chapter 2-4 analyzes Xie Tiao’s experience of going to Jingzhou, returning to Jiankang and guarding Xuancheng and related poetry creation, and discusses the spiritual process of Xie Tiao. The Jingzhou period was the beginning of the destruction of Xie Tiao’s ideal world. However, because Xie Tiao left his hometown but did not leave the group,he had the feeling of nostalgia for his hometown, but he did not have the sadness of traveling alone and leaving the group, and often shelved his idea of seclusion. In an unfamiliar environment,Xie Tiao often placed himself in the group to obtain a sense of belonging. After returning to Jiankang,Xie Tiao returned home but lost his group. The former comfortable "garden of Eden" had completely fallen.Coupled with the shocking political struggle and massacre,Xie Tiao was sad to leave the group and began to really look forward to living in seclusion.During this period,Xie Tiao began to have a dialogue with his heart, but failed to make a rational judgment on the future road.Guarding Xuancheng provided an opportunity for Xie Tiao to develop his life space.Xie Tiao regarded this period as a substitute for seclusion. The content of seclusion still appeared many times in Xie Tiao’s poems, which showed that Xie Tiao believed his seclusion ideal was in an "unfinished" state in this period.Due to the fall of the spiritual home,Xie Tiao took the real hometown Jiankang as the projection of the ideal spiritual home in the process of pursuing a place where he could live in peace of mind and body. Therefore,Xie Tiao’s homesickness at this time included two levels: "birds love the old forest" and "surveying the spiritual home".Overlooking through windows was a common viewing mode of Xie Tiao in Xuancheng period.Xie Tiao drew in the distance between himself and the external scenery through the window, and processed the scenery outside the window and the resulting emotion in literature, but he also failed to achieve the integration of himself and landscape.Chapter5 reviews Xie Tiao’s two reports of rebellion. In this period,Xie Tiao’s inferiority and weakness were fully exposed in extreme circumstances, and his life eventually died out in fear.Chapter 6 discusses the literary significance of Xie Tiao’s spiritual history. The landscape in Xie Tiao’s poems is based on "entertaining hisself",which not only dispels Xie Tiao’s inner anxiety, but also establishes the esthetic interest of Jiangnan landscape for later generations.Xie Tiao’s tragic life of "the last chapter is full of troubles" is externally expressed as the tragedy of the literati of the small court in the south of the Yangtze River, and internally expressed as the tragedy of the literati with weak vitality. It presents a process of the death of inferior and weak life, and also defines a path for later scholars to establish themselves with literature.
